BANDS in Bognor Regis and Littlehampton are combining in memory of a well-loved former member.
Bognor Regis Concert Band and Littlehampton Concert Band will team up to perform a charity concert in honour of Nigel Dobinson.
The event will raise funds for the Myeloma UK charity. Myeloma is the form of cancer with which Nigel lost his battle in August.
The concert will feature the music Nigel loved like Disney movies, musicals and classics. His wife will be performing along with lots of his friends.
It will take place at 7.30pm on November 8 at St Paul’s Church, Chichester. Tickets are £8 adults and £5 for u-16s. They can be bought from the bands or from Claire on 07944 676952. They will also be available on the night.
Kate Weed, the Bognor band’s secretary, said: “Nigel was a keen saxophonist and he loved music generally and was a member of Bognor Regis Guitar Club.
“For a number of years, he was on the committee of the Bognor Regis Concert Band, holding the position of chairman, and had only recently stepped down as treasurer at the time of his death.
“He was a cheerful character, who always had an encouraging word for you if you had a bad practice or a friendly handshake for a new member.
“He attended the farewell barbecue the Bognor band held to say goodbye to Howard Burchfield, the band’s previous conductor. He kept the smile on his face, though he was still obviously in pain.”
Kate added that her personal memories of Nigel were the sight of his little red car at the end of the road when he went to practise guitar and his chats when she tended her garden.
