Auto firm’s new centre is permitted

AN AUTO company’s move across the road in Bersted has been approved to pave the way for the return of Marks and Spencer to the area.

Kwik-Fit has received permission for its new premises on Oldlands Way. The approval by Arun District Council enables the firm to leave its base since 1989 at the Arun Retail Park, on the opposite side of the A29.

The unit is set to be occupied by Next with an M&S Simply Food outlet next door in a joint planning application which has yet to be decided by the council.

Arun planning officer Simon Davis says in his report Kwik-Fit’s plans for a change of use from business premises to a motorist centre were acceptable.

“An application has been submitted for the Arun Retail Park which will, if allowed, result in the ability to introduce new retailers into the premises to be vacated by Kwik Fit,” he states.

“It is considered that, if the Kwik Fit application were to fail, then the result would either be that the Arun Retail Park would lose the ability to accommodate new retailers or Kwik Fit would lose their presence in Bognor.”
