APPROVAL has been given for an ambulance community response post.
The proposed centre by South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Trust will be sited in Oldlands Way, on the Southern Cross Trading Estate. It is one of two planned for the town to replace its ambulance station. This is due to close when the trust’s make-ready centre at Tangmere opens in autumn 2016.
The response post will be used around the clock as a place for ambulance crews to wait for the next call.
Arun planning officer Simon Davis said in his report the new use was acceptable, though it meant a change of use from storage and distribution. But the loss of a job generating use was outweighed by the post’s benefit to residents.
“The proposal will not result in any adverse impacts on residential amenity or the character of the locality and it is considered there is sufficient parking,” he said.
