Ali brings books alive for pupils

TOP children’s author Ali Sparkes gave Felpham children the inside story on her latest book.

She has just published her scariest tale yet and enthralled the pupils at Downview Primary School with details of how she writes.

Her visit on Monday saw her hold workshops for 8-11-year-olds at the school as well as speak at assemblies.

Her day was one of the main features of the school’s book week.

Teacher Liz Oliver, who jointly led the book week with Jess Franklin, said such visits were vital to spread the joy of reading among the children.

“It’s important they are motivated to read so it is enjoyable and does not seem like a chore,” she said.

The week also includes the school’s first spelling bee and a visit by illustrator Korky Paul.
