Both commercial giants are located at Park Farm, just outside the town, along with a new petrol station.

Ever since Asda first announced plans to build a new £8m, 14,000 sqft store in Selsey in July 2014, the town has been divided, with some looking forward to it while others fearing it will damage local businesses.

Ahead of its opening this morning (Monday, June 12), general store manager at Selsey said: “The team has been working really hard over the past weeks to get everything in place for our launch day.

“We can’t wait to open the store, and we’re really looking forward to meeting and being a part of the local community.”

He said 80 local jobs had been created.

The new Costa next to it also opened today, though its official opening is due to be this Saturday, June 17.

The new 2,000 sq. ft Costa store – which will be officially opened with a ribbon cutting by chairman of Selsey Town Council, Mike Beal, at 10am - is being unveiled by local Costa franchise partner Premier Coffee.

The franchise is supporting Selsey charity Youth Dream, which provides a range of youth services in and around Selsey, and a cheque for £500 will be presented to trustee and chairman Mike Nicholls at the official store opening.

Mr Nicholls said: “I am delighted that Costa has chosen to support Youth Dream.

“The financial donation will help provide much needed youth services in the town.

“I wish Premier Coffee and the new Selsey store team every success.”
