A CHINESE takeaway owner was hospitalised after an oil fire raged out of control in his kitchen this afternoon (Thursday, July 24).
Frank Tsang, the owner of the Mandarin Chinese Takeaway in Rectory Road, Tarring, suffered smoke inhalation from the blaze and was taken to Worthing Hospital by ambulance.

Crews from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene at 2.30pm with two fire engines and managed to bring the fire under control.

Watch commander Darren Wickings said: "When we arrived there was quite a severe fire in the ground floor kitchen involving the frying range and the extraction system. I believe the fire started accidentally."

"There has been a significant amount of damage to the kitchen. I think they will be closed for quite some weeks."

It is understood the takeaway was open when the fire started.

Fire crews used equipment similar to that used by chimney sweeps to force water up through the extraction system to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
