Officers from Worthing police and British Transport Police (BTP), along with two drugs sniffer dogs, packed the platforms and foyer area at the station on Saturday (October 11) afternoon in response to the increase in drug offences in the area.

According to Detective Constable Bob Cager, of the BTP, stations are being used as a major transportation route for drugs.

Thanks to sniffer dogs Lucky and Amber, 10 people were given cautions and street warrants for cannabis possession and two people are arrested and taken into custody for cocaine possession.

DC Cager said: "We were very pleased with the results.

"I think it had the desired effect and members of the public were pleased we were there.

"People have the right to travel on trains and go into town centres without having to encounter drug taking or drug dealing."

As well searching for drugs, there was also a mobile archway at the railway station to detect knives as people walked through it. But none were found.

In the evening, officers, the sniffer dogs and the archway were taken to The Pier nightclub, on Worthing pier, but no drugs or knives were discovered.
