Vivaldi’s Gloria and other Baroque gems are offered by the Leconfield Singers in their summer concert. The choral society is staging the concert in the newly-built Midhurst Rother College in North Street, Midhurst on Saturday, June 14.
Chairman Jill Button said: “The varied programme includes Vivaldi’s Gloria, The Magnificat by Pergolesi, and some popular short pieces by Mozart, Fauré and Handel. There will be a retiring collection for Macmillan Cancer Care (Midhurst).
“The choir will be joined by the English Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra, and perform under the baton of their musical director and conductor Graham Wili. Graham has performed in some of the most prestigious concert venues in England and abroad and made his Royal Festival Hall conducting debut in 2003 with Verdi’s Requiem. His most recent RFH appearance was in 2008 with the world premiere of Chris Williams’s Songs of the Coromandel Coast.
“Solo violinist Jonathan Evans-Jones is the leader of the orchestra and a freelance leader of many top orchestras in this country. However, his face is probably best remembered from the film Titanic, He was the band leader playing on until the end and going down with the ship.”
Playing solo trumpet will be Hugh Davies who lives in Milford. Hugh has broadcast live on BBC R2 and R3 and Classic FM. He plays for many of the top London orchestras, and his playing has been heard on TV shows on all the major British networks, as well as in West End hit shows including Top Hat, Betty Blue Eyes, Lend Me a Tenor, The Wizard of Oz, Love Never Dies, Oliver, The Sound of Music, Les Miserables, Chicago, and the Alfie Boe tour.
Jill added: “We have gone for a programme that includes some of the most stirring and best-loved choral works and are fortunate to be joined by two professional soloists and an orchestra made up of top London musicians. Rarely will such a wealth of musical talent have gathered together for one evening in this area.
“It’s an occasion not to be missed!”
