Petition is off to good start

HUNDREDS of villagers are backing a petition against the Lidsey smell.

Campaigner Steve Hellyer had received some 600 signatures by Monday.

He said: “It’s all going quite well. The pace of support for the petition is picking up nicely. I’ve had people from Barnham signing and a big response from Yapton as well.”

Mr Hellyer, of Oak Tree Lane, Woodgate, has been helped by a fellow campaigner who has created colourful flyers to highlight the protest. These are being distributed in the area around the Lidsey landfill site, off the A29.

Mr Hellyer will present his petition to the Environment Agency to get it to stop the stink. Efforts to wipe it out have been hit by rain.
