Finding a DVD to suit the whole family is now nigh-on impossible.
There is husband who is the film police and is so picky there are, on average, just a couple of films a year he will agree to view.

He is also the TV police, watching nothing but University Challenge and self-improving Discovery Channel shows, and the book police, berating himself for dumbing down if he is reading anything less academic than the history of the Chinese dynasties of some such stuff, but that's another story.

And then there are teenage sons who are suspicious of any choice I make, sniffing out anything that has even a whiff of educational value about it.

But, now and again I persevere, and, after hours perusing shelves of goofball American comedies starring Will Ferrell, I return home with what I think is an OK selection. There is then, usually, much eye-rolling, exasperation and sometimes outright outrage.

"Is it funny?" demands one son. "It looks rubbish."

"I am not sure I can commit to two hours," says other son, who has an urgent date with Facebook.

"I'm not watching that ****," says husband. "Haven't you read the reviews?"

"Yes, actually, I have," I say. "and I read a really good one."

"No, you didn't," says husband, not twigging that I probably have more of a handle on what I have read than he does.

"Why don't you just give it a chance?" I venture, by which time everyone is back watching the footie.

So, film lies on kitchen table, unwatched. Until - until - a couple of hours before it is due to go back.

Husband then says: "Aren't we going to watch that film then?"

Is it just me?

* There can't be many lovelier places in the whole of the country than thisa, when the sun is shining.

On a week off over Easter, I walked a lot, and each was different, and each amazing - through the bluebells at West Stoke, the woods at West Dean, around East Head and through the reed beds at Fishbourne in the early evening. Absolutely lovely all, and total bliss.
