As part of National Cricket Week, cricketers from three primary schools gathered at West Wittering beach for the inaugural Sussex Cricket Board Beach Bash, supported by West Wittering Estate.

Teams from St Richards, Sidlesham and West Wittering took to the sand and showed off some of the cricketing skills they have learned through the Chance to Shine cricket programme, with the addition of some acrobatic diving catches.

After a thrilling final, it was West Wittering primary pupils who returned home as victors – after making use of the home advantage.

Carl Tupper, cricket development officer for the SCB, said: “As a board, we are always looking at new and inventive ways of raising awareness of cricket.

“We run a similar Chance to Shine showcase event in Brighton which is always a success and thought it would be good to try here in West Sussex. We hope next year we can build on the successes of this tournament and have more local schools involved.”
