We’re just a week away from welcoming what should be our biggest crowd of the year to Fontwell Park for Boxing Day racing, writes Fontwell marketing executive George Hill.
We’ve got a great mix of races – seven in total – plus plenty of entertainment for all the family off the track. And we’re hopeful of good fields in terms of quality and quantity.
We’ve sold out of Premier Enclosure admissions and hospitality, but we still have availability in the Paddock Enclosure, where you’ll be able to pay on the day.
We’re encouraging people to get here early. Gates open at 10.30am and the first race is at 12.20pm. Because of the numbers we’re expecting, we’d advise everyone to give themselves plenty of time to get in.
We normally charge people to park in the centre of the course, but this will be free this time.
And the centre is where much of the entertainment will be – including free fun-fair rides, face painters, a pets’ corner, beer marquee and food and betting outlets.
Other things to look out for around the site will be our mascot Fonty the Horse, who’ll be entertaining younger race-goers, and some stilt-walkers.
It’s a bit early to know what the Boxing Day weather will be doing, but we look reasonably safe from any threat from frost, which put paid to the Boxing Day fixture here in 2010.
The meeting will bring to an end another great year – and a busy one – for the racecourse.
We’ve staged 24 fixtures and are set to host the same number next year following confirmation of the fixtures.
Interest in annual membership continues to be strong – we’re well on course to reach our target for numbers.
Annual membership gives you admission to all 24 fixtures and to virtually any race meeting at any of ARC’s 14 other tracks, which include Brighton, Lingfield and Windsor.
There are other raceday benefits too, and in next week’s Observer you’ll have a chance to win a pair of annual Fontwell memberships.
Also in next week’s paper, which is out on Christmas Eve, I’ll be previewing the Boxing Day card.
