A BIG charity softball tournament is being organised in Chichester - and teams are needed.

It’s for beginners as well as those who have played the sport before and will be held on the fields at the University of Chichester on Sunday, April 14.

Chichester Falcons, the city’s relatively-new softball team, who play in the Solent League, are organising the event.

Falcons coach James Clarke said: “This is a chance for local businesses and organisations to enter a team into Chichester’s first one-day softball tournament and help raise money for Children on the Edge.

“Teams are mixed - five males and five females - and rules will be for soft-pitch softball so anyone can play. Experience isn’t necessary.

“There’ll be food, music and sideshow games to make it a great day out for the teams and spectators.”

Children on the Edge is a locally-based charity which helps the most marginalised and vulnerable children in the world.

Dave Morris of the Falcons said the team wanted to promote community spirit in the city and this seemed the perfect way to do it.

“We’ve space for eight teams in total and have some interest already,” he said. “We can help teams do a spot of training in advance if they want to.

“Softball’s a growing sport - it’s catching on across Europe - and its beauty is it appeals to such a wide range of people. We have people at our club ranging in age from 17 to 57.”

The event is likely to run from around 10am to 5pm.
