Rocks Review: Brighton come to town with semi-final place at stake

The Rocks take a break from their quest for league glory when they welcome Brighton to Nyewood Lane for a Sussex Senior Cup quarter-final on Wednesday (7.45pm).

They’re likely to field a strong team against a Seagulls XI which will probably comprise reserve and youth players but will still provide tough opposition.

If the Rocks could win tonight’s rematch of the 2010 final and put the favourites out, it would open up a real chance of the club’s first silverware for many years.

Full-back Jon Marzetti is likely to come straight back into the Rocks starting line-up after completing a three-match ban while winger Callum Saunders could be handed a rare start.

But another full-back, James Crane, is still suspended and Callum Sheriff and Ryan Thomson are unavailable because of Brighton connections.

Central defender Chris Breach is expected to play despite a seven-day approach from Ryman premier outfit Lewes which the Rocks hope comes to nothing.

Meanwhile Jordan Adekunle, a student at Brighton’s City College, has signed registration forms for the club, and will be in the squad for the cup game.

The 16-year-old is a former Charlton Athletic youth-team player and has just been selected for the England Colleges under-19s squad to tour Italy in March.

His team leader for sport at the college has recommended him to the Rocks and joint boss Darin Killpartrick has recently been able to see the player in action. He is described as an eye-catching winger with great pace and power, who is anxious to make a career in football.
