Uni’s badminton battlers to stretch their lead

Students from the University of Chichester’s sports teams returned to sporting action with a number of teams looking to continue their impressive pre-Christmas form.

The men’s badminton team welcomed second-placed Reading to the Bishop Otter campus and comprehensively beat them 7-1 to move eight points clear with just four games remaining.

The men’s football seconds spurned the chance to open up a five-point lead as a resolute Reading side held out for a 0-0 draw. Chichester missed two penalties in the second half.

Both volleyball teams earned their first victories of the season, over New Bucks University, while the mn’s lacrosse team dismantled University of London 17-3, gifted athlete scholar James Kidd scoring seven.

Away from Chichester, the men’s football firsts, aided by a Will Holmes double, beat Canterbury Christchurch 2-1 to extend their lead to six points and move another step closer to promotion to the UK University Elite Premiership South.

The women’s football first team moved into mid-table in the Premiership South with an impressive 8-1 away win against Essex.
