The newly-graded trio and their instructors from Arun Aikido Club

Arun Aikido Club’s latest junior grading was a great success.

Three of the Bognor group’s students were pushed hard to prepare them for their green belt test. Congratulations go to Christopher Bradbury, Robert Bradbury and Samuel Wilden for passing, as the level required is difficult to achieve.

Special grading certificates have since been awarded to the successful students.

Sensei Tony Wilden, fourth dan, who conducted the grading, said: “Once again, the students performed very well and deserve their new green belt level.”

Wilden was on the grading panel with daughter Natasha Wilden, first dan, and his son Robin Wilden, second dan.

Natasha, the club’s junior instructor, began her study of the art of aikido in 1990 and has many years of experience. She has an NVQ level two in supporting teaching and learning in schools and has worked as a teaching assistant in several local schools.

She is also the club welfare officer, responsible for the safety and well-being of junior and adult students.

The Wilden family run the club, which has been offering unique training in the art of aikido since 1992.

They are fully qualified, have more than 20 years’ experience, are insured, first-aid certified, and CRB-checked. There are a wide range of lessons available.

Aikido is a Japanese martial art created by Master Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969). It teaches you how to deal with aggressive people by using their strength against them. The aim is to use the minimum amount of power to control an attacker, without causing them any harm.

You can visit, watch a class and ask any questions. Classes are held every Thursday – juniors from 6pm to 7.30pm and adults from 7.30 to 9.15 at Holy Cross Community Centre, Chichester Road (opposite the pink pub), Bognor.
