Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club hosted an eight-and-under red Sussex tour tennis tournament.
The grade-five mixed singles event was the latest in a long series of junior mini-tennis events held in the club’s indoor dome during the winter season.
The first stage of the event was run using a round-robin format of two groups of five. Each match comprised a match tie-break to 10 points.
The best two qualifiers from each group went into an elimination semi-final, with Emma Videv (Horsham) collecting bronze by beating Michael Aaron Smith (Alverstoke) 10-8.
The silver medal went to Hugo Francis-Braconi, who lost out to the eventual winner and gold medal recipient Ross Wilson 10-6 in the final. Both Francis-Braconi and Wilson receive coaching with the Chichester Tennis Academy at Chichester R&FC.
Tournament organiser and referee Peter Cook said: “Conditions outside were incredibly windy and, as usual, we were grateful for our indoor facilities. We were treated to some fantastic tennis matches with all the young players showing wonderful sportsmanship.”
