The Arundel 10k is always popular with Bognor’s Tone Zone runners and this year the club had the largest entry with 20 in the field.
This year’s winner came home in 33min 57secs - compared to 37.18 last year - and runners were fortunate with the weather as early-morning drizzle kept temperatures down, helping with the long run to the top of the hill.
With a good mix of road, trail and hills, there was the usual large support from the crowds.
Last year’s Tone Zone winner Stephen McLoughlin was once again in contention. But it was Simon Gill who finished first for the club and third overall. Gill finished in 36.45, with McLoughlin fifth overall in 37.29. Marius Vitkauskas was the third for the club in 42.25.
That promoted hopes of the male team prize but Stubbington Green Runners recorded three finishers in the top 12 to take it.
Anna Kari Enes produced a good show, finishing first for the Tone Zone ladies and first in her category. Jack Penfold produced another sterling performance and was less than a minute behind Colin Hiscock. Several new runners from the club were involved - with Neil Strudwick, Paul Coe and Debbie Pacey finishing in good times.
With the cancellation of the annual Milland half marathon, the host club replaced it with the Harting 10 Mile. Runners knew that this was going to be a hilly route.
Again, Tone Zone with the largest showing as 13 members turned out in warm conditions.
Hiscock set an early fast pace alongside fellow Tone Zone member Gary Pidgeon. Hiscock proved too strong for Pidgeon as he pulled away by the third mile and retained this lead to finish first for the club in 1hr 16min.
Louisa Proctor finished first for the ladies in 1.20, ahead of Enes and Karen Harrison. Fast-improving runner Paul Coe crossed the line in 1.23.
Ever-present runner and tennis coach Joan Woolley continued her tremendous achievements by adding another race to this year’s schedule.
In the Henfield half marathon, Tony Hancock and Woolley finished in 1.41 and 2.15.
Daniel Hughes was the only Tone Zone member at the Torbay 10k, which he ran 51 minutes.
Hancock was back in action at Blackpool, first at the 10k running 45 minutes. The following day he did the Blackpool half marathon where he finished in 1.38.
The Lingfield Dry 10 had Woolley and Peter Chittenden finishing in 1.36 and 1.58. Chittenden was competing in his 33rd race of the year.
