Bognor RFC played host to a Year 8 boys’ rugby tournament. It was part of the local School Games and the winners qualified for the Sussex School Games.

It was organised by RFU community rugby coach Mike Marsh and school games organiser Sean O’Connor, and supported by West Sussex West School Sport Partnership and Bognor Rugby Club.

Taking part were Bishop Luffa, St Philip Howard, The Regis School and Westergate Community School.

Matches were refereed by young officials from The Regis School and Westergate. It was the first time these students had taken part in such a high-profile event, and they received supportive feedback from teachers and players.

The young officials will now be selected to umpire at the Sussex School Games, which is for young people who qualified in any of the 15 sports on offer. All matches were played in great spirit.

St Philip Howard were the winners, with their boys displaying some superb rugby skills, conceding only two tries during the whole tournament. Thanks go to Kate Smithand Cassie Burch for help on the day.
