Bognor’s second team, weakened by absence, entertained unbeaten West Worthing IV at Hawthorn Road and were unfortunate to go down by the odd match in five.
Fifth string Jon Burley went ahead playing Jeremy Prail but the visitor proved too strong winning 2-9, 9-3, 9-6, 9-6.
Captain for Bognor Dave Meagher had a good result against Martin Quinn winning a comfortable first game, losing the next two then pulling back to level and clinching the fifth - the score 9-1, 0-9, 5-9, 9-3, 9-3.
No3 Paul Butcher, in only his third outing of the season, could not get into his game with Dave Clarke and lost 6-9, 7-9, 2-9 to leave the visitors 2-1 ahead.
Second string Steve Darlington levelled matters when he beat Bob Perry.
The first three games were closely fought with Darlington taking the first two and Perry pulling one back, but the home player made no mistake with a decisive fourth - score 9-7, 9-5, 7-9, 9-0.
The No1 match would decide the bonus points and this was another five-game battle as Bognor’s Steve Carruthers took on Josh Clarke.
Clarke looked to be heading for a quick win taking the first two games 9-3, 9-6 but Carruthers had other ideas and won two demanding games 9-7, 9-7 to level the tie before Clarke took charge in the decider, winning 9-2 to give the visitors a 3-2 victory and 17 points to Bognor’s nine.
A really encouraging first half of the season for Bognor despite these setbacks with both teams well placed in their respective divisions.
The next home match is on Friday, January 18, when the first team play West Worthing II at Hawthorn Road - details on 01243 865462.
