Chichester’s junior Sportshall squad finished their indoor season in fine style in their final Sussex League match at Horsham.
The boys’ team finished third out of six teams, beaten by only strong teams from Crawley and Horsham. The girls battled well to end with the same number of match points as Brighton and Haywards Heath on equal third.
The boys were led by another double-track win from Thomas Ackerman after an inter-counties triumph a week earlier, supported in the under-15 age group by Ewan Willis and Peter Thomas.
In the under-13s, Alex Austin and Joe Taylor posted fast times in the sprints, while Zac Hurst and Sam Pink tackled the six-lap endurance race.
Showing promise in the under-11 age group were Alex Austin, who broke the club record in the two-lap sprint, and Samuel Haigh.
For the girls there was fine sprinting and jumping from Abbie Moss and Sophie-Anne Haigh with support from Zoe Barnett in the under-13s, while Jade Bailey showed good speed for the under-15s with Zoe Nunn and Clare Fraser picking up good points in the field events.
The under-11s caught the eye with Alyssa White becoming the only Chichester athlete of the season to gain a hat-trick of A string victories by winning the two-lap sprint, speed bounce and long jump. Maria Haughy was a capable B string.
