Ockley ABC staged their final show of the season at Lakeside Community Centre in North Bersted and local young boxers featured heavily.

Alfie Haven of Ockley took on Callum James of Sydenham ABC and the local favourite improved his record again with a well-deserved points victory, boxing faultlessly at long and short range.

Haven outmanoeuvred and outworked a very strong opponent. Haven has a bright future in boxing if he continues in this style.

Bognor’s Billy Castle, who is 17 and fights for Ockley, faced Jason Tinkling of Arthur’s ABC in a youth contest at 62kg.

An excellent opening bout saw Castle landing the heavier shots. After a cagey start, Castle lost on points, but boxed well and has plenty of power at this weight.

Ockley’s Jacob Hall faced Brad Sullivan of Gosport ABC in a schoolboy contest at 42kg. Southpaw Hall came up against a slick opponent, and although he landed some good shots and finished very strongly, he lost on points.

David Kulis (14) of Ockley narrowly lost on points to Harrison Pearson of the Horseshoe club in a schoolboy contest at 73kg. Kulis showed great raw strength and courage catching Pearson with some powerful shots in a very thrilling bout.

All in all it was a fine afternoon’s boxing in a brand-new venue with a very appreciative crowd. Ockley look forward to next season with great anticipation.
