Hundreds line up for Chichester’s aquathon and triathlon

ORGANISERS are delighted by the number of people who have signed up for this weekend’s Chichester Triathlon and Junior Aquathon.

More than 500 will take part in Sunday’s Olympic and sprint-distance triathlon, while more than 100 youngsters will compete for honours in the aquathon on Saturday.

Entries for the events have now closed but spectators are more than welcome.

The swimming elements of both events take place in the pool at Westgate Leisure, with running and cycling sections based around the Chichester College field.

Both events are sponsored by Natures Way Foods.

Saturday’s aquathon, for seven to 16-year-olds, starts at 1pm while Sunday’s triathlon has a 7am start for those in the first wave, with the try-a-tri event’s first wave at 10am.

The main triathlon on the Sunday includes a 600m pool swim at Westgate Leisure Chichester, a 42km (26 mile) cycle ride and a 10k (six-mile) run.

Some have entered as teams of three, while the try-a-tri event is a sprint triathlon for competitors who prefer shorter distances: a 400m pool swim, 30k bike ride and a 5k run.

Saturday’s aquathon includes a swimming race at Westgate Leisure followed by a race around Chichester College’s campus. The distance for juniors is dependent upon age.

See Thursday’s Observer for full coverage of the events.
