A NINE-YEAR-OLD swimmer from Petworth has struck gold at a county championship event.
Daisy Seymour, a pupil at Fittleworth Village School, has been in action for Guildford City Swimming Club for the past 18 months and this has been her first competitive year of swimming.
Over the past four weeks she has taken part in the Surrey county championships, in which she won gold at 200m and 50m backstroke, silver in the 50m butterfly and bronze in the 200m individual medley.
She has also came first in the overall individual BAGCAT points championship out of 78 girls her age.
Her highest UK ranking this year has been second in the 200m backstroke. She has qualifying times for the south east regionals in May and June this year, when she’ll compete as a ten-year-old.
Her younger sister Lily, eight, also swims and trains with the county squad and she will start to compete properly when she turns nine later this month.
The duo train for eight hours a week and Daisy’s training will increase to 14 hours a week in September, when she joins the regional squad.
