THE BOGNOR Friday Night Summer League’s mixed pairs knockout took place at Newtown Social Club.

A total of 58 players took to the oche, the same as last year, and the first and second rounds saw a few surprises with some of the top players falling.

The first semi-final saw husband and wife pair Claire and Rob Collins (POW Z) take on Mazz Tupper and Keith Robinson (Chi Snooker C).

It was pretty close in the first leg but the double was taken by Rob Collins. In the second Tupper and Robinson caught up after suffering an early deficit and eventually hit double eight for the leg.

The third leg was close but Tupper and Robinson won the leg and the game.

The second semi pitched three-times finalists Julie English and her new partner Lee Hellyer (Friary C) against another husband and wife pair, 2008 winners Debbie and Ashley Clements (Old Barn).

The first leg was clinched when Debbie Clements hit double four. The second leg saw a better start from English and Hellyer, who moved into a 100 point lead. But they couldn’t finish the leg, giving their opponents five darts to get their double which Ashley got with double two, taking them to the final.

The final started well for the Clements but loose darts let Tupper and Robinson catch up. A miss on double top by Robinson gave Ashley Clements his chance for double top, which he took.

The Clementses took the early lead in the second leg, but consistent darts from Tupper and Robinson put them on a possible finish first.

Eventually, Debbie Clements stood up to the oche for double four, which she hit with her first dart to take the Summer League mixed pairs title for the second time.
