The University of Chichester’s netball third team needed one last push to win their league - and did it.
Playing the University of Brighton, last-minute changes meant the game taking place outside - but this didn’t dampen their spirits.
Brighton won the first quarter. Chichester picked up on Brighton’s imperfections but weren’t able to retrieve the shooting rebounds.
An injury to Bex Groves-Excell allowed for a time-out for coach Pete Carter to tweak the team and have a team talk.
Hannah Wakelin went in as goal attack and Rachael Blee as wing attack and they soon clicked and goals were scored.
By half time Chichester were two goals up.
Captain Sophia Sheridan and Chloe Chapman worked hard in the defensive circle while the attackers worked the shooting circle well and gained some beautiful shots, especially injured vice-captain Michelle Rummery, who came on and took her last ever three centre passes for the team.
In the last quarter Chichester put 110 per cent effort into the game and it paid off with a title-winning victory by 26-19.
Rummery, Sheridan, Wakelin, Blee and Hannah MacLachan played their last game for the university team and were proud to be walking off as league winners.
Player of the match was Sheridan for her effort and determination.
