Chichester table tennis ace Lois Peake clinched a third-place finish at the junior masters tournament.

The 17-year-old was up against 11 other top-ranked English girls, with competitors meeting each other once in a round-robin format.

She was the third seed for the event in Harlow and won nine of her 11 matches to claim the bronze medal.

The event was won by national junior champion Maria Tsaptsinos, who won all 11 matches without dropping a set. Peake lost only to Tsaptsinos and runner-up Tin-Tin Ho.

Bishop Luffa School pupil Peake said: “I’m pleased with finishing third – it’s what I was expected to do. I had to dig deep to beat (No4 seed) Denise Payet in five sets because I was struggling in the first two sets.

“I think the thing I’ve got to improve on is winning the tight sets – I lost a couple of close ones to Maria and Tin-Tin.”
