Two national games have been played by Arun ladies’ teams in the Masons Trophy – with mixed fortunes. These are played on a one-rink-home-one-rink-away basis.
Their A team lost 43-32 to Palmerston IBC with home players D Mitchell, W Adams, D Latter and S Miles lost 22-19 and the away team of V Greenaway, M Phillips, S Stocker and G Conley lost 21-13.
The B team beat Isle of Wight by 13 shots. The home team of C Hobbs, B Collins, B Spicer and A Janman won 28-15 while the away team of E Fitch, J Taffurelli, S Judd and M Richards drew 15-15 –meaning the B team move into the third round.
The ladies travelled to Wey Valley for a friendly and won on only one of six rinks.
Arun bowlers played an mixed in-house match to get the season under way.

Arun found the first half of this game 50/50 but slowly pulled ahead for a good win.

All rinks were very even and that made for a great game of bowls. Denton just edged it over the last few ends.

The Bitterns visited Lavant Blue and won 37-33. Bitterns gained four league points.

Bitterns hosted Fittleworth and lost 44-43, taking just two league points.

Crablands Cormorants lost 39-23 away to Bognor Green. Bognor gained all six league points.

Donnington held the Captain’s Shield, a round-robin mixed triples competition for 18 players.
The competition was close-fought but the blue team of Wendy Dean, Ann Hulbert and Ray Clark won by one point. The gold team of Colin Hulbert, Mike Beal and Pam Patterson came second.
The Captain’s Shield is presented to the winning team at the annual meeting in May.
The club had an enjoyable meeting with Walberton and won well.
Hunston are happy to hear from anyone would like to visit them a game.

The Kingsley Cup was contested in a round-robin format. Winners were Joan Goodchild, Arthur Ellcome, Sue Judd and David Luxford; runners-up Simon Herbert, Audrey Hodgson, Monica Enticknap and Charlie Martin.

West Dean BC held their 2015 dinner and prizegiving at the Chichester Park Hotel.
Thirty members and guests sat down to a meal followed by the presentation of trophies by club captain Tony Boxall.

The evening ended with a short address by the club chairman John Elliott. Next year’s outdoor bowls season starts in West Dean Gardens in April.
