AFTER the continuing success of their first two Zero to 30 Minutes running programmes, a new course is being launched by Chichester Runners & AC to encourage complete beginners to take up running in a friendly, no-pressure environment.
The eight-week programme has been designed to enable anyone, regardless of age or current fitness level, to complete a 30-minute run at the end of the course.
The organisers are now looking for recruits to sign up for the next course, which starts tonight (Tuesday, May 21), in Oaklands Park. Rob Wiggins, a UK athletics coach, explained: “This programme is perfect for anyone who finds the thought of joining a running club too daunting. There are so many benefits to running - it’s a great way to meet new people, lose weight and boost your
self-esteem and confidence.”
The cost is £40, payable at the first session. This fee includes a £10 voucher towards the cost of joining Chichester Runners so participants can continue running with the group and/or Chichester Runners at the end of the course.
Each hour-long session starts at 6.30pm and will be led by friendly, fully-qualified group leaders who will be on hand to give advice and answer questions.
The project is part of the England Athletics Run England initiative aimed at encouraging more people into running. The previous
courses attracted 30 participants, most of whom have continued running staying with the ‘improvers’ group – Run Chichester Plus.
Ten of the Run Chichester Plus group ran in the Fishbourne Flat Five - most had only been running regularly for 12 weeks so it was a great achievement. They have all formed new friendships and become fitter in the process.
