Crablands Tennis Club celebrated the opening of their refurbished tennis courts by holding a barbecue lunch followed by a tournament playing with old wooden rackets.

The ribbon was cut by their oldest playing member – Desmond Dubbin, 90 – together with the youngest, Tilly Sarson, four.

Desmond said he was honoured to open the courts and was grateful to the members of the club who encouraged him to keep playing.

The courts work was done thanks to a grant from Chichester District Council. Members are delighted with the choice of the Wimbledon colours of purple and green.

The club have a thriving junior section with coaching sessions on Saturday mornings. There are club sessions for seniors and both ladies and men play in matches in the LTA Sussex League. New members are always welcome – for more information contact Jo on 01243 606890.
