Mark Johnston’s superb Goodwood season continued when Bow Creek landed the Doom Bars Celebration mile on day two of the August Bank Holiday festival.
Joe Fanning guided the 9/2 three-year-old – tipped on this website on Saturday morning – to a length-and-a-half victory over Richard Hannon’s 66/1 shot Emell to take the Group 2 prize, which is Goodwood’s biggest race outside of Glorious.
It came just after Johnston had seen Royston Ffrench land the 32Red Stakes on 16/1 starter Almargo.
Richard Hughes was also back in the winner’s enclosure a day after a victory and his ice-bucket challenge at Goodwood, taking the opener of day two, the Group 3 Whiteley Clinic Prestige Stakes, on 13/8 favourite Malabar for Mick Channon.
The final day of the festival includes another feast of family entertainment and a seven-race card, topped off the by the Group 3 Supreme Stakes.
