Horses and heroes in the spotlight at Fontwell Park

RACE-GOERS will be on the lookout for heroes on and off the track when Fontwell stages its first big Sunday meeting of 2012 this weekend - if it survives the freeze.

The meeting doubles up as a fundraiser for services charity Help For Heroes, with collections planned throughout the afternoon.

But with temperatures dipping below zero, and not expected to rise just yet, track bosses have announced a 12.30pm inspection on Saturday.

If it survives, a seven-race card begins at 1.40pm with the Tiana Honey Watson Fund Juvenile Hurdle and continues until 4.40, ending with the Work And Leisurewear Corporate Clothing Intermediate National Hunt Flat Race. Gates open at 11.30am.

There was a healthy number of entries across all races.

We’ll have tips for the meeting here on Sunday morning - we picked out two winners and one runner-up before Fontwell’s last card.

Fontwell stages the National Spirit Hurdle on February 26.
