Goodwood cricketers look forward to new era dawning

Goodwood Cricket Club's annual meeting opened with a vote of thanks to the Duke of Richmond and Lord March for allowing the club to play in the magnificent surroundings of Goodwood Park.

Club captain James Mayne reported on a very successful 2016 season with a 65 per cent of all matches won.

The club have a very strong Sunday fixture list and it has been further strengthened for 2017 with matches against the Royal Household and Hambledon.

The 2016 awards were as follows: Jack Miles Award for batting - won by Johnny Heaven; Arthur Miles Award for bowling – Ezaz; Steve Miles Club Shield – John Heyworth; John Heyworth Comedy moment – John Clifton: Bat with the hole in it – shared between Pete Lamb, Steve Dudman and Matt Beard.

The club are looking forward to the 2017 season – the first year of their formal alliance with Chichester Priory Park.

Both clubs are steeped in history and all at Goodwood are looking forward to working together to further develop cricket in the Chichester area.

Goodwood have nets sessions at Westbourne House School on Tuesday, March 28 and Tuesday, April 4, from 6pm to 7.45pm.

The following officials were elected: Richard Geffen (chairman), Tim Odell (vice-chairman), Tony Gammon (secretary), Steve Miles (fixture secretary), Steve Dudman (treasurer), James Mayne (captain). Tim Pitman continues as welfare officer.
