COWDRAY PARK’S golfers caused an upset in the Surrey & West Sussex Winter League when they won their home match against runaway leaders Hankley Common 3-1, reversing their earlier away defeat by the same margin.

It was so nearly 4-0 to the home side, but the visitors edged home in the final match by 2&1.

Last year’s top three teams Puttenham, Cowdray Park and Bramley are languishing behind the leaders at present, but they all have games in hand of the teams above them, with half the fixtures still remaining.

The weather has started to take its toll but clubs are doing their best to re-arrange any fixture which cannot take place on the day. Results (Cowdray Park names first): Phil Harrison & Rob Doney beat Phil Raybone & David Anderson 3&1; Paul Owen & Nick Austin beat Chris Sinfield & Stephen Randall 4&2; David Balfour & Roger Poat beat Gerry Toms & David McDougall 6&5; Dave Lucking & Graham Thompson lost to Jeremy McIlroy & Chris Tibbott 2&1.
