Goals fly in from all angles - but only Villages are victorious

Pagham Rangers lost a seven-goal thriller, Elmer bowed out of the cup and Six Villages won a goal-feast as Chichester and West Sussex Sunday league sides enjoyed an improvement in the weather.

Wittering Sun 4 Pagham Rgrs 3

Division one

PAGHAM Rangers' unbeaten run in the league came to an end as they were cruelly beaten in a seven-goal thriller. It saw Wittering overtake them on goal difference at the top of the league following a crazy last 15 minutes.

There was no hint of the drama to come as Pagham Rangers dominated the early exchanges and raced into a 2-0 lead.

Robb slotted home following good work from Conrad, then Conrad pounced on a loose ball after the keeper had fumbled.

It was a surprise when Wittering pulled a goal back minutes before half-time, an excellent strike from 30 yards finding the top corner.

Philip Turner almost restored the two-goal cushion after a neat interchange with Robb.

The second half began with the visitors looking dangerous on the counter, but the drama didn't begin until the 75th minute when a foul on a Wittering striker led to a free kick on the edge of the box.

The set-piece was slotted into the far corner for the leveller.

Haga-Hammond restored the visitors' lead minutes later with a crashing drive in off the post after good work from Lee Doran, but an error was to prove Rangers' undoing.

A slightly overhit back pass to Mclaren from Rhys Coe hit a bobble and was sliced by the keeper straight into the path of a striker, who couldn't miss.

Wittering bagged the deflected winner with four minutes remaining. Good play on the right led to a loose ball being fired home from the edge of the box.

RANGERS: Mclaren, Tonks, Rich, Waghorn, Heller (Todd 10), Haga-Hammond, Turner, Dean, Robb, Coe, Conrad (L Doran 76).

Elmer 1 Queens Park South 2

Division two

On a heavy pitch, Queens Park South avenged their heavy cup defeat earlier in the season.

QPS got their noses in front with a thundering header from Alix Norgate after 27 minutes.

Elmer thought they were to be handed an advantage when Keelan Belcher in the Queens Park goal handled the ball some ten yards outside his area.

Referee Kemp decided a yellow card was punishment enough and the resulting free kick saw Steve Nanson thunder the ball straight into the wall.

The end of the half was marred by a serious injury to the impressive Dex Cons, who was replaced by Russ Moir.

Alex Berry replaced Jamie Hambidge and made a big difference. Berry levelled when he got his head to a trademark Nanson long-throw to loop the ball over the stranded Belcher.

QPS stepped up their pace again but Garry Rainer collected the visitors' second caution for a poorly-timed lunge on Enoch Kwoffe.

The best chances fell to Queens Park but the finishing was not matching the build-ups. But it was settled by an individual moment of

quality when Ell Winche spotted the Elmer keeper off his line and scored from 35 yards.

ELMER: K Nanson; Cons (Moir 41), O'Donnell, Wilson, Lawrence; Hambidge (Berry 45), Davis, Bann, MacIver; Kwoffe, S.Nanson (Belcher 87). Sub: Sampson.

Six Villages 6 Wheatsheaf II 4

Division two

After a prolonged break, Six Villages were desperate to get their season back on track against in-form Wheatsheaf II.

SV were out of the traps faster but Wheatsheaf took the lead through an early mistake from Bazley.

Barry McCoy equalised but SV retook the lead with a quality strike from Hebelein, before Wheatsheaf equalised with a strike from 30 yards which gave keeper Folly no chance.

SV regained the lead with a tap-in from Styles, only for Wheatsheaf to equalise again.

McCoy and Heberlein combined again to put SV back in front – but again Wheatsheaf replied.

In the final 15 minutes, SV assisant manager Dan O'Sullivan gambled on all three subs and it paid dividends, with Benjamin slotting the ball home with his first touch.

And in the dyimg minutes, McCoy and Heberlein put the game out of touch, Heberlein scoring the sixth.

SIX VILLAGES: Folly, Webb (Abdo), Mitchell, Edwards, Mann, Janman, Beka (Benjamin), Styles, McCoy, Heberlein, Bazley (Hurst).
