Andy Awford has distanced himself from speculation linking him with a move for Liam Sercombe.
The Exeter City midfielder was rumoured to be a target and although the Pompey boss is well aware of him, it seems unlikely that a move is imminent.
Awford said: ‘I know Liam Sercombe, of course I do but he’s not a target.
‘I don’t know where that one has come from.
‘He is one of many players that you look at but I’ve got loads of players on our database.
‘Liam Sercombe is an Exeter City player so I’m not going to comment on someone else’s player.
‘That would be disrespectful.’
Meanwhile, Awford has explained his reasons behind the decision to allow Ricky Holmes to leave for Northampton Town.
Awford said: ‘Ricky wasn’t playing and there was no guarantee that he was going to get a contract at the end of the season so the decision was taken by the football club and by me to let him go.
‘The initial loan was to get him back playing again and then see what came about in that month.
‘At the end of the month, they wanted to do business so we did it. I’ve rung Ricky and wished him good luck.’
