Pompey could be forced into another right-back change for the trip to York.

Shaun Cooper last week replaced Yassin Moutaouakil in the role following the Frenchman’s straight red card at Burton.

However, it has emerged he picked up a groin injury in the 1-0 Fratton Park defeat to Fleetwood.

Cooper has been unable to train since, missing the build-up for Saturday’s visit to the Minstermen.

Guy Whittingham and his medical team believe the former Bournemouth utility man has an outside chance of returning to training today.

But the fear remains a third right-back in three games could be required, with Moutaouakil just one match into his three-game ban.

That would open the door for Danny East to return to the side, on this occasion in his more natural right-back position.

Interestingly, he has never started a Pompey match in that role.

However, he has occupied the less familiar left-back spot on five occasions.

He was replaced at left-back by fit-again Marcos Painter in the Fleetwood fixture, ending a run of four successive appearances.

Joe Devera has also featured at right-back on two occasions in the opening 10 matches.

But he is again a fitness concern for Saturday.

The former Swindon defender sustained a grade one hamstring tear at Burton, ruling him out of last weekend.

He is now back running, although has yet to return to full training with Whittingham’s squad.

Devera is being assessed by Pompey’s medical team on a daily basis.

And they will decide whether York will come too early for him.

That would leave Bondz N’Gala to continue partnering Sonny Bradley at centre-back.
