Patrick Agyemang and Alex Wynter are back to bolster Pompey’s options against Newport County.
While the Blues will today discover the full extent of Jack Whatmough’s injury.
Agyemang has yet to play this season having picked up a hamstring problem on the eve of the campaign.
As for Wynter, he has been sidelined since banging his head against Peterborough in the first round of the Capital One Cup.
But both trained yesterday and are now in the frame for consideration to make the squad for Newport’s visit.
Awford is also waiting for news on Whatmough, who yesterday underwent scans on the left ankle he hurt during the Capital One Cup defeat to Stoke.
Regardless of the outcome, he is ranked as a doubt for tomorrow as Pompey strive to make it four successive home wins.
That leaves Ben Chorley, Paul Robinson and Joe Devera as the central defensive options, although all could feature if Awford opts for the 3-5-2 system.
Nick Awford was the other casualty at the Britannia Stadium, although his complaint was cramp and he has recovered.
Meanwhile, Michael Poke is edging closer to fitness having trained yesterday.
The keeper has missed the last five matches with an Achilles problem, prompting the Blues to sign Peter Brezovan on a short-term deal.
But Poke has taken part in training sessions since Tuesday and is inching towards first-team consideration.
Danny East, Tom Craddock, Wes Fogden and Bradley Tarbuck remain on the sidelines.
