DANNY EAST and Adam Webster have handed Pompey a shock injury boost.
The duo yesterday gave Andy Awford a timely pick-me-up as they returned to training.
East has been sidelined since the summer with a pelvis problem, while a knee injury has kept Webster out since last month.
Awford admitted his surprise at their return, with Webster back ahead of schedule.
He said: ‘I got the news yesterday morning when I had a medical meeting.
‘I sat with the staff and I nearly fell over when I heard!
‘It’s great to see them out there and it gave me a bit of a pick-me-up, to be honest.
‘Easty’s like a new signing and Webbo’s got the best win percentage of any of our players since I’ve been manager.
‘It was great for the pair of them and they trained really well.
‘They did the whole session and did nothing different to any of the players.
‘They’ll be ready to go again in a session today and then have a day off before going again next week.
‘Then they’ll be ready to go in a reserve game.’
Awford explained he will guard against forcing East back into action too quickly,
He believes it will be a case of building him up slowly moving forward to keep him on the training pitch.
Awford said: ‘It’s been a long road for Easty. The staff kept nudging him along but now he has to stay out there.
‘He’ll need some maintenance but that’s the challenge for him.
‘We can’t rush him back but it’s good to see him back out there.
‘It’s too early for today’s game or next week.
‘East will need a bit longer to bring himself up to speed because he’s been out for a little while.’
