Jon Harley will be in Pompey’s squad for Saturday’s visit of Notts County.
However, Brian Howard has played his last game for the club.
Axed Harley yesterday told The News he was desperate to feature for the Blues one last time before leaving.
His contract ends on Tuesday and he will not be offered another.
Guy Whittingham has, however, revealed the 33-year-old defender will be considered for selection against the Magpies.
Howard, meanwhile, remains troubled by a groin problem and is ruled out through injury.
Pompey’s caretaker boss is uncertain of the availability of Lee Williamson and Mustapha Dumbuya, who have also been told they can leave.
New recruit James Keene and Dan Butler will be in the squad, though, and pushing for selection.
They will be joined by experienced defenders Ricardo Rocha and Gabor Gyepes who are fit again following injury.
Whittingham said: ‘Jon will be in the squad on Saturday and that is a great attitude from him.
‘He wants to be involved, so I will consider him. He’s a good lad and it was a tough decision to let him go.
‘Brian Howard is still injured anyway, so that rules him out.
‘I am not sure about the other two (Dumbuya and Williamson), although I understand if they don’t want to be involved.
‘They have not got a contract with us after Tuesday, so it might not be right to involve them against Notts County.
‘We’ll have to have a think about that one, it’s a difficult situation.
‘But Ricardo and Gabor are both fit again and will be back in the squad, which is a boost for us all.’
