Chris Gibbs previews Pompey’s trip to Carisle.

We seem to be living on our away form at the moment, yet cannot win at home.

Notts County was a bit of a blip but, having spoken to friends of mine who support the Mapgies, that was their best performance of the season.

Teams seem to raise their game when they take us on.

Looking at the selection, if Paul Cook is going to revert back to 4-2-3-1 then I would put Adam Webster alongside Michael Doyle as the holding midfielders.

He can do more with the ball than others, there usually seems to be an end result from him either in terms of a shot or decent pass. The move for some goals have started from him.

That would then allow Matt Clarke to come back into the team to partner Christian Burgess in the centre of defence.

Kyle Bennett has to come back into the team, even though he is very frustrating.

The lad is very skilful but the concern is his final pass, he wants to beat too many men, but you can understand why the manager regularly selects him.

Bennett wants to create and, in fairness, has set up quite a few goals this season so far.

There is pressure on him, however, because we don’t really have anyone else like him able to play in that sort of position.

I’d like to see Adam McGurk played as the lone striker.

He seems to bring others into play, with Caolan Lavery and Marc McNulty part of that attacking three with Bennett.

Lavery and McNulty are pretty similar and have a bit of pace about them, so could be effective in that position.

A win is important as we have to catch up with the teams above us. I’m going for 2-1 to Pompey.
