KIERON FREEMAN’S FA Cup ambitions have been hit after failing to realise he was cup-tied.
Pompey’s new loan recruit admitted he forgot he wasn’t eligible to play against Bournemouth tomorrow – despite scoring in the competition this season!
Freeman completed a loan move to Fratton Park until the end of the season from Sheffield United yesterday.
The 23-year-old was expecting to go straight into the equation for the sellout clash with the Premier League Cherries.
But he had to be let down by Blues boss Paul Cook, who pointed out he already appeared in the competition.
Not only that – but the full-back got himself in the scoresheet for the Blades in the 3-0 win over Worcester.
Freeman said: ‘I’m not available.
‘To be fair, I didn’t know I couldn’t play. The gaffer had to tell me I was cup tied.
‘He told me and I couldn’t believe it. It was like “oh yeh, I can’t play”.
‘He told me I played it and I’d scored in it! It was like “oh yeh, I did!”.
‘Even my agent thought I was available so I was getting all excited about it.
‘I’m terrible for remembering stuff like that. I just get my head down and play games.
‘I’m just going to have to wait until Tuesday instead.’
Freeman came through the ranks at Nottingham Forest.
And he had loan stints at Mansfield and Notts County before joining Derby.
After he made the switch to the Rams he then had further loan spells with both the Magpies and Stags before moving to Bramall Lane last year.
Freeman made 22 appearances this season but has fallen out of the first-team picture under Nigel Adkins.
He’s now looking forward to game time at a ground he has played at before.
Freeman said: ‘I’ve got an opportunity to play and play for a massive club.
‘I played here last season for Mansfield.
‘The atmosphere was unbelievable and it was a great game to play in.
‘I just want to play now. I’m here to help get the team promoted.’
