Simon Eastwood bemoaned the defending that extended Pompey’s winless run and admitted: We have to stop shooting ourselves in the foot.

The Blues went down to a poor 2-1 loss at home to Yeovil on Saturday.

It was their 12th match without a win.

Weak defending was again at the heart of the defeat as Pompey served up a terrible first-half display.

Eastwood knows it has to stop.

He said: ‘They’re poor goals.

‘The second one was a deflection. I was going to save it when it hit Paul Benson’s back and went completely the other way.

‘The first one has gone through about three people’s legs, though.

‘They are scrappy goals, not good ones to give away.

‘We’re struggling from set-pieces but we shoot ourselves in the foot by giving so many away in the first place. It has to stop.

‘There were four or five good opportunities we gave them to whip it in.

‘If you do that there’s a chance something can happen. We have to stay on our feet.’

Pompey were booed off at the interval for their abject 45-minute display.

Eastwood added: ‘It’s the first time I’ve heard that since I’ve been at the club.

‘At the end of the day, though, it’s fair enough. It wasn’t good enough. That’s all there is to it.

‘We gave it a go in the second half.

‘The fans showed that was the case with the way they reacted at the end.

‘All they want is us to give it go.’

Meanwhile, reports of a bust-up between the two sides in the tunnel were confirmed by Guy Whittingham.

However, the caretaker boss could not elaborate on the incident.
