Andy Awford has no immediate plans to add further recruits to his Pompey squad before the start of the new League Two season.
The Blues boss is satisfied with his pool of players and insists there are no ongoing discussions for any transfer targets.
For now at least, he is happy with what he’s got as Pompey continue their pre-season preparations with a visit to Thurrock tonight.
Awford said: ‘We are not actively pursuing anyone.
‘I don’t feel there is an immediate need to bring anyone else in.
‘I’m quite happy to start the season with what we’ve got.’
Awford has clearly got room to manoeuvre if circumstances change or the right player becomes available, so he will continue to do his homework to ensure he is ready to act.
‘We are always looking because we have to have targets lined up,’ he said.
‘A lot of background research goes into it before we sign anyone.
‘God forbid, if we get a few injuries or suspensions, we need to have targets lined up to make sure we are ready.
‘Agents are always on the phone, we have scouts out watching games and that will never stop.
‘We have dossiers on players but in terms of bringing anyone else in at the moment, I’m okay.
‘That is unless one pops up who will really improve us.
‘If there is room in the budget to bring one or two in, then we will do it but only if it will improve us.
‘But it has to be the right player.
‘Everyone knows that I would not sign a player for the sake of it.
‘They need to be better than what we already have and fit into the budget.’
