Blues handed Allan boost

On-loan Pompey midfielder Scott Allan

On-loan Pompey midfielder Scott Allan

Guy Whittingham is hoping the return of ‘talented’ Scott Allan will shatter Pompey’s goal drought.

The Scot is available for tonight’s clash with Leyton Orient after serving a three-match ban following his FA Cup dismissal against Notts County.

He spent last week training with parent club West Brom, but was back with the Blues yesterday.

And Whittingham is seeking for the loanee to assist in ending the Blues’ miserable 489 minutes without a goal.

He said: ‘Scotty is a talented kid and if you have got all the talent in the building you need to use it, really.

‘We haven’t scored recently and you need players on the pitch who are going to score goals and players on the pitch who are going to create chances to score goals.

‘We have got that with Scotty – and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

‘He was at West Brom last week and I don’t mind that because it is about keeping the player happy and making sure his home life is okay and he has trained well.

‘I spoke closely to David Oldfield, who is the under-21 coach there, and he has been keeping me up-to-date with how Scott is doing and how he is training.

‘He was back with us yesterday and I have no worries about him.’
