FOR Nyewood Lane, read Memory Lane. Rocks fans get a chance to see former favourites don the green and white again tonight (March 3) when the newly-formed Rocks Veterans take a bow.
Players who have confirmed their involvement include Kevin Murphy, Gary Young, Guy Rutherford, Miles Rutherford Darren Pearce and John Price.
They have been drawn at home against Burgess Hill Town in the second round of the Isthmian Veterans Cup.
With the selection criteria stating players must be 35 or over, expect to see a mixture of recent crowd favourites such as Duncan Jupp alongside the legends from the past.
The team will be managed by the veteran Jack Pearce, and although Jamie Howell said he was upset he was too young to play, he may be available act as a ball-boy if first-team training finishes in time.
Rumours that Michael Birmingham is too old for the vets have been shot down by sources close to the midfielder.
Admission will be free, although a bucket collection will be taken.
The clubhouse and canteen will be open as normal.
In the event of a draw after 90 minutes, penalties will be taken to decide who progresses into the semi-finals.
A Rocks spokesman said: “This is a great chance to see many great legends from the past in action once again in a Rocks shirt – although they may need to wear a larger-size shirt this time around.”
Kick-off is at 7.45pm.
