Bognor ended winless in pre-season as they fell to defeat at home to Whitehawk with goals either side of half-time, despite a hard-working display.

Whitehawk enjoyed the early pressure and Jack Fagan – filling in for Bognor in goal with Chris Winterton away – managed to easily deal with an attempt from Sam Deering from the edge of the box.

Bognor’s first attempt saw neat work from Harvey Whyte and Paul Hinselwood and it was the latter that crossed the ball in for Ben Johnson but his effort rolled the wrong side of the right post.

The Hawks were doing most of the attacking but a hopeful ball forward from Rocks almost fell for Alex Parsons.

Jake Thomson brought down ex-Crawley star Sergio Torres just outside the box on 23 minutes. Deering’s free-kick curled over the wall and smashed off the right post.

Whyte and Darren Wheeler threatened but Whitehawk scored on 31 minutes. Danny Mills directed a cross goalwards and it went in off Jamie Strong.

Defender Strong was replaced by Dale Hayes on 40 minutes.

HT 0-1

Mills struck the crossbar for the Hawks as he got on the end of a quick cross from Robinson.

Whitehawk extended their lead on 50 minutes when substitute Pa Saikou Kujabi pounced on a through ball to slam low into the net.

Wheeler, Parsons and Whyte caused problems for the visitors in attack before the Rocks made another change on 64 minutes when Ryan Morey replaced Parsons. Ollie Pearce replaced Whyte four minutes later.

Pearce’s free-kick was kepty out and Charlie Oatway just failed to set up a team-mate in another Rocks attack.

Good work from Wheeler on the left saw him set up Hayes whose long-distance shot was saved by Sullivan in goal.

FT 0-2
