Red, red Robins go bob, bob, bobbin’ along to new football season

Bosham FC’s pre-season schedule is taking shape, with five friendly dates confirmed.

The Robins are in for tough opener as they travel to Wessex premier outfit Horndean tomorrow (Tues, July 9, 7.45pm).

That’s followed by a visit to Gosport to face Hampshire League champions Locks Heath on Saturday, July 13 (3pm), followed by a trip to another Hampshire League side, Liss Athletic, for a double-header on Saturday, July 20 (1pm/3pm).

Another away fixture against Wessex League opponents in Hayling United follows on Tuesday, July 23 (7.30pm).

Boss Tony Hancock’s side face newly-formed Sussex County League club Wick & Barnham United at Crabtree Park on Wednesday, August 7 (7.30pm).

Hancock is looking to keep the nucleus of the squad that finished third in last season’s West Sussex League premier division, with the addition of a couple of new faces to add competition.

Meanwhile, the provisional West Sussex League constitution has been announced - with the Walton Lane side set to line up against a former Robin, Gary Jefkins, and his Wittering United outfit - last season’s division-one champions.

Henfield also gain promotion to the top-tier, forming a 12-team premier division.

Bosham’s second string - managed in the interim by first team assistant James Ash following the resignation of Brian Randall - will line-up in division four south.

Pre-season training has started at Emsworth Park and Bosham are extending the sessions to any new local players. The club are also on the lookout for a physiotherapist to assist on matchdays.

Applicants should have a minimum of basic first-aid experience, and treatment of sports injuries would be desirable. Lifts to away games can be arranged through the club. Anyone interested in playing or in the physio role should contact manager Tony Hancock on 07803 884973.
