Having played the leaders Littlehampton recently and been beaten only 2-0, Midhurst were full of confidence as they welcomed Eastbourne Utd to town in division two of the Sussex League.
They put up a good display in front of one of the biggest crowds seen at Rotherfield so far this seson.
Midhurst manager Gary Block has tried several combinations since taking the reins and the team had some positional changes.
Both central defenders were missing through injury - Lawrence Hyde has a broken ankle and Sean Dummer has a torn
The opening 15 minutes were mainly in the visitors’ favour and they found the net after ten minutes.
Then a hold-up in play saw Eastbourne reduced to ten men as Paul Cooper was sent off for a technical offence.
Midhurst were awarded a penalty and Lewis Hamilton put the ball into the visitors’ net well clear of Adam Sargent in Eastbourne’s goal.
Play was even and both teams were capable of scoring but Eastbourne went further ahead when Dan Simmonds took advantage of confusion in the Midhurst defence.
Both sides brought on their subs and Harry Farr set up a well-judged pass for Luke Sheldrick to put the ball in the Eastbourne net.
Midhurst were content with a point to keep them in the top half of the table.

Things didn’t go so well in midweek as Midhurst lost 5-0 at Steyning.
Midhurst host Mile Oak this Saturday at 2pm, followed by a Reserve Section Cup game against Lancing (4.30pm).
