The Yellows had plenty of the ball in the opening exchanges and on the half-hour mark the impressive Dan Baker broke the deadlock.

Matt Lyttle followed his pass out of defence to join a sweeping attack and his deft touch played in Baker to finish sublimely.

Ten minutes later Baker was on hand to net Lavant’s second and give the home side a comfortable lead at the break.

The second half saw the visitors look to impose themselves, trying to break up Lavant’s slick passing moves.

Lavant’s much-needed third came when Will Cieszynski was felled in the corner and the resulting free-kick found Hancock darting in to stoop and nod home, giving Lavant an important cushion.

Soon Hancock had his second, slotting in after a scramble.

Hunston got aconsolation goal when a Charlie Mclaren foul and a well-delivered free-kick led to a free header looping over the stranded Ash Court.

This was the motivation Lavant needed to push on and get more and the goal of the game followed to allow Baker to complete his hat-trick. After James Sandford’s through-ball, Baker lobbed the onrushing keeper from 25 yards.

Lavant: Court, Grace, Jones, Lyttle, Wright, Brooks, Mclaren, Cieszynski, Hancock, Sandford, Baker. Subs: Sheppard.

For the third consecutive game, East Dean found themselves 1-0 down – after slack play at the back allowed Worthing to take the lead.

Finally, East Dean found some momentum and Mike Shewell latched on to a loose ball to level.

Sloppy play in midfield let Worthing take the lead once again as their striker rounded the goalkeeper to place the ball into an empty net.

After the break, a headed flick by Lee Bessey set up Craig Manchip to volley home. Nathan Freeman could have won it ten minutes before the end for East Dean, but his penalty rattled the bar and went over.
